Certified Birth Doula

Doulas of North America (since 2007)

I appreciated having Char there because she was the "calming force" in the birthing room during the labor and birth of our child. DK

My Training
My Story

I have been a registered nurse since 1986. I have taught childbirth classes at Genesis-Davenport as a Lamaze Certified Childbirth Educator since 1989. In 2007, after attending several births as a labor nurse, I decided to become a certified birth doula through DONA (Doulas of North America), and start my own business.  My business, Journey2Birth, has become my passion.

I enjoy being a doula because I get to provide one-on-one childbirth education and personalized labor support.  I do not have to do "nurses duties", so this allows me to be focused on the laboring family.  My shift does not end until your baby is born!

I am originally from Minnesota.  My husband and I moved to Davenport in 1986.  We have 4 grown children.

My Philosophy

I believe that every laboring woman should have a birth doula at her side to offer physical and emotional support during the intense work of labor.  My goal is to provide labor support services to all couples regardless of race, religion or socioeconmic level.

I will guide you and your partner in using coping techniques and positions to increase your chances of having a successful vaginal birth. I will provide reassurance and an objective view point to you and your partner. I will help you effectively communicate your birth plan desires to your care provider and labor nurse(s). I DO NOT replace your partner!  I assist your partner in providing comfort measures to you.  I am also your partner's 'support person'.  Providing much needed time for eating and bathroom breaks.
