Perform any clinical tasks

I do not perfom any nursing/medical functions such as: vaginal exams, medication administration, fetal heart rate or contraction monitoring, IV monitoring.

During labor

I encourage you to stay at home as long as possible in early labor.  During that time, we will be in phone contact, so I can provide you and your partner with coping technique ideas.  Once you are admitted to the hospital and need my assistance, I will join you to provide emotional, physical and informational support throughout the rest of your labor.

Make decisions for you

I will make sure you have the information you need to make informed choices.  You must give consent for any proposed procedures.

Baby’s first feeding Support

I will remain with you for up to 1 hour after birth to assist with baby's first breast feeding.

Speak to the staff on your behalf

Prior to your labor, I will equip you and your partner with knowledge on the labor process, so you will be better able to communicate with your Dr/Midwife and labor nurse(s).

Postpartum follow-up visit

1 week after birth, I will visit with you over the phone or do a home visit (client's choice).

Project any of my own beliefs onto your experience
